@starrymiko suggested/requested these!! This a fun idea I’ve never seen before, because most people ik wouldn’t reject royal treatment from a hot guy—turns out I have a lot to learn (😂💗)

he’s gonna try every love language in the book to try and get you to open up, you two are dating after all, so maybe your just shy? Awww so cute! His dearest is embarrassed~ Physical Touch is probably the first thing he’d try and the first thing you’d say no to. Mainly since he’s a simp and touching is too direct for you. You guys are a really ironic couple since you’re almost scared of love and he’s all about it.

He tried to initiate contact of all types and got rejected each and every time. Let me carry you for a romantic walk as I hold your bags! 💥💥 “I said got it! 💨 🎒😑” Well at least let me carry the bag to your room! It’s really heavy! “No! I can do it on my own!” But darling- “NO!”

tbh you can hit him as much as you want but he won’t hit you back. So whenever you argue or fight about these kinds of things you usually end up winning the argument

for acts of service literally everything is a no- I washed your laundry for you! “What! Don’t touch my clothes! I’ve got it!!” I got that thing you’ve been searching for! “I wanted to find it myself! Now it’s not as rewarding! I could do it on my own! Stop doing things for me!” Darling, let me help~ 😞 “no way!”

tbh the only thing you let him do is cook for you because he is the cook, and even so, if you want to fix a snack you prefer to do it by yourself. It makes his love for cooking grow even more and he looks forward to daily meals because he can finally take care of you! 🩷

receiving gifts is probably another thing you’d reject seeing as though you’d figure you can get it yourself. But words of affirmation and quality time? May or may not be so bad for you! I’ll let you decide :) if you allow him to display his love in these ways he’d be overjoyed and just assume this is your preferred way of display of affection, and that the other 3 aren’t your forte 💗💗

when he finds out he’s truly scaring you away simply by treating you right and respecting you, he figures somethin’s up.

he’s gonna get to the bottom of it too, whether you like it or not because you, need. it. He knows what it feels like to bottle up your past and smile at the future, despite the fact that the past is still hurting you inside, and it’s like a ticking time bomb before you implode.

He knows he doesn’t want that for you. (Especially after whole cake)

So he’ll gently pry as much as he can with out upsetting you too much. It’s also helpful if you visit your home land, because then he can learn what it was like for you growing up.

after that Sanji would want to ease you into being used to respect especially and his care too

now if your just naturally independent he’ll try and let it go as best as he can, but he does want you to command respect, because if you let others disrespect you, that proves you have no respect for yourself.

and it’s essential to be able to at least stand up for yourself on the grand line.

but don’t worry! If you won’t do it, he will for you! 😏 No? Well then stand up for yourself dear! 😊

Hiya! I wanted to come and ask a question about how to run a competition like this! I followed along with this competition for a while and have been very inspired to do one on my alt blog for a different fandom!

Do you have any tips for a newbie like me?

(One question i have in particular is how long should I have the sign up for up for? how do i encourage people to have their characters interact? stuff like that ig?)

Hi hello! I got some tips but reminder I myself is always learning every year while hosting these lol 👍

To answer your specific question, I’ll give it a week or two. That is unless you get a bunch of submissions within the first week or couple days, then it’s best to close submissions early. It’s really a numbers type of situation. First year I held the comp I had it open for a while, last year there were so many submissions I had to close it early.

OTHER TIPS:

PLAN LIKE CRAZY. Figure out how you want to organize your bracket. Last year was a bit hectic for this comp, and such theres a new way I’m personally going to do it. Have a specified amount of teams/places, and the top whatever out of the submissions get into the competition that way.

Have themes! Themes help give creators a starting off point for their characters to interact. Give them also a hangout spot, or just fan spots that characters can interact if wanted. I.e, the basketball court during the first comp, or the speakeasy from last years comp. Most shenanigans happen organically, so I wouldn’t push it! Sometimes I take a look at what’s happening, go “huh ok. Would be funny if i did this” and make a spot as a joke. Ideal example is the lost and found corner, I made that in like 5 minutes and people went “hell yeah.” Everything is a surprise!

Have fun. Low key, have fun with everything! It’s not a serious thing. That’s the most important part. Hope this stuff helps!

I don't mind sharing! I had to go through the archive to remember which ones I wanted to check out, but a few of them would be The Walten Files, Red vs. Blue, The Murderbot Diaries, I Am In Eskew, and The Mistholme Museum of Mystery, Morbidity, and Mortality. Many of the characters posted here look interesting, but I'm such a slow watcher/player/reader/etc. that it'd take me decades to go through everything lol

You had gotten sick with a illness that doesn’t have a cure yet.

You never told Seth about it as you know how he suffered so much from his family so you couldn’t break the bad news to him but you knew you had to at some point.

You tried to spend as much time as you could while also making sure he doesn’t find out until you’re ready to tell him yourself.

You have gotten sicker than before you knew you couldn’t keep it from Seth any long so you told him.

He was angry at you from not telling him sooner but heard your reasoning and regret on not being able to tell him sooner so he forgave you, he was also angry at himself for not figuring it out sooner like he should’ve.

You had a feeling you weren’t going to live any longer and decided to write a letter to Seth saying how much you loved him and that you wished all the happiness for him along with how you’ll be watching and be by his side in duat.

Seth felt like all the happiness he had vanished when he held your lifeless body in his arms and cried for days on end until there wasn’t any tears left to shed.

“It is not!!” Dorothy looks offended and you think she might actually be, so you throw Pero an amused look of warning from the kitchen where you’re peeling apples.

Pero sighs and softens his scowl when he sees you; he crosses his arms tightly across his chest as if to try and contain his displeasure before turning back to Dorothy who’s on the other end of his couch, pouting.

“Okay, I’m sorry. TikTok is… a legitimate platform for business and I’m very happy you've found success there.”

Dorothy smiles. You know that smile - she smells blood in the water. “You could, too, Pero! You would be totally anonymous! And it’s actually better that you keep the biker helmet on – come on, pleeeeease?? Let me show you how good I am at this! I’ll do all the work and if you don’t like it we can delete it!”

The kids Halloween day starts out pretty normal but as things are uncovered an old foe of the Night Bureau come back to ruin a perfectly good Halloween and put our Dream Chasers in a tricky corner Because how are they going to defeat a super powered villain in the Waking World ??

Mateo was rummaging through his locker, carefully placing what he would need for the school day inside next to Z-Blob when he heard a clang from the locker next to him.

Curious Mateo peaked his head around his locker door and found Logan leaning against the other locker dressed in a Sonic the Hedgehog onesie, hood up instead of wearing his cap, and sneakers on his feet.

“Seriously bro? Your Dream Sona?” Logan questioned.

Mateo glanced down at himself. He had chosen to dress in a makeshift replica of his Dream World clothes for Halloween so currently he had a green cape, belt, and cardboard hourglass on his figure.

“You’re one to talk,” Mateo shot back playfully, “You’re blue,”

“I’ll have you know this isn’t even my real costume,” Logan protested, pushing himself off the locker, “We built a Master Chief Halo cosplay that I was going to wear but then my moms wouldn’t let me because they said it was “too violent” so I couldn’t bring it to school, but just you wait when trick-or-treating time rolls around we’se gonna be wearing that bad boy.”

Mateo couldn’t help the snort that escaped him as he closed his locker and locked it, “Ok but why Sonic?”

Logan grinned, “Because we’re both cool, blue, and we gotta-“

Logan was cut off as Izzie sprang out from behind him and yelled, “GOTTA GO FAST!”

“AGH!” Logan jumped in surprise and Mateo snickered.

Izzie was dressed up as Anya from Spy x Family so she had two cone-looking things pinned in her hair which she had styled to look like Anya’s, and she wore a black dress with gold details.

With a chuckle, Izzie said, “Oooo, nice Sonic costume Logan, it suits you.”

Logan swallowed and seemed to calm himself before accepting Izzie’s compliment, “Thanks, but it’s not as cool as our Halo cosplay we have at home.”

Izzie gasped as she made a shocked Pikachu face, “Halo cosplay!?”

Logan nodded and then went on to explain to Izzie how he wasn’t allowed to bring it to school as he pulled out his phone to show her pictures of his cosplay.

Mateo returned his attention to his backpack and Z-Blob. He gave Z a small “See you soon buddy,” and a wave goodbye as Z gave a squish -sounding noise before Mateo zipped his bag halfway up. Cautiously, Mateo then slipped his backpack on to not wreck his costume or jostle Z-Blob.

As Mateo took a step back with the new weight settled on his back he felt someone come up behind him.

“I didn’t expect to come to school today and see Logan in his pajamas,” The person muttered as if he only wanted Mateo to hear and Mateo felt his mood brighten as it clicked that Cooper was the one standing behind him.

Mateo chuckled as he tilted his head back to try and see Cooper, “They’re his pajamas?”

“Yeah, I’ve been over to their house enough times to know,” Cooper said, chuckling slightly as he slid up beside Mateo and sheepishly held his hand out for the other to take.

Mateo hesitated, unsure if he’d get into any trouble with the teachers for holding Cooper’s hand but at the last second he grabbed it as Cooper started to pull his hand away.

Cooper flexed his hand and then squeezed Mateo’s hand. Mateo gave a shy squeeze back only to catch the appalled look Izzie was giving him.

“COOPER!” Izzie yelled, just as Mateo was about to ask his sister what was up with the look.

“Hm?” Cooper hummed.

Izzie gestured at him wildly while Logan’s eyes widened for a second only for him to shake his head in disappointment.

“You’re not wearing a costume!” Izzie pointed out.

“Ah, yeah I couldn’t think of anything,” Cooper admitted, rubbing at the back of his neck. Mateo turned slightly and looked Cooper over. He did indeed not have a costume on, just sweatpants and a red hoodie.

Logan cocked his head to the side in confusion, “Come on bro, you didn’t want to be like one of those racers you like, or like Tails!? We could’ve matched!”

“Um, nope,”

“Bro!” Logan exploded, “Come on, even Zoey wore a costume!” He pointed out, gesturing towards Zoey as she walked past the group.

Zoey stopped and turned to join the group. She wore black leggings, a black shirt with one or two rips in it with the image of a bird being shot with an arrow on the front, which was underneath a black leather jacket that had a few pins and patches on it. She also wore combat boots, fingerless gloves, a yellow belt, and a domino mask tied around her head.

“I’m not wearing a costume,” Zoey said.

Logan turned and squinted, looking Zoey over, “Ain’t you like Batgirl or someone though?”

Zoey blankly turned her gaze towards him, “I’m Black Canary,”

Logan jumped excitedly and pointed a finger at Zoey, “Aha! See,” he exclaimed before moving his finger to point at Cooper. Cooper frowned.

Mateo gave Cooper’s hand another squeeze, “I didn’t think you’d wear a costume this year Zoey,”

Zoey crossed her arms casually, “If I’d had known Cooper was going to wuss out and not wear one I wouldn’t have,”

“Hey!” Cooper protested trying to defend himself, “I didn’t wuss out,”

Logan smirked victoriously and crossed his arms too as if he was mimicking Zoey, “Then where’s your costume bro?”

Cooper opened and closed his mouth a few times, trying to think of something, “I-uh,”

Izzie gasped suddenly causing all of the older teens to turn towards her. Izzie’s eyes were wide and full of mischief like she had just thought of the funniest prank ever, “I GOT IT,”

Mateo squinted, “Got what Izzie?”

Izzie took a step forward and held a hand out towards Logan, “Sunglasses me,”

Without even questioning it, Logan pulled a pair of sunglasses out of the front pocket of his onesie and handed them over to Izzie wordlessly. Humming a “Thanks,” at Logan, Izzie skipped over to Cooper and stood on her tippy-toes to put them on Cooper, failing of course when the arms of the sunglasses ended up poking Cooper in the face instead of properly sliding on. Cooper grunted and took the sunglasses from Izzie to put them on without so he wouldn’t get poked again.

Proudly, Izzie took a step back and spread her hands wide in Cooper’s direction like she was showing him off to Logan and Zoey, “Tada! Cooper now has a costume! He’s a celebrity hiding from paparazzi!”

A grin split Logan’s face as he clapped his hands together in quick succession, “Oooo, smart,”

Cooper hung his head as if he was embarrassed, “Is this really necessary?”

“Yes,” Izzie insisted instantly.

“Ok,”

Mateo watched his friends and sister for a second, amused, as Izzie and Logan began to spitball ideas for which celebrity specifically Cooper was before leaning back to look around Cooper where he locked eyes with Zoey. Zoey shrugged as if she was just as confused about the list of celebrities Logan was running off which caused Mateo to giggle.

“So, I take it you’re not going trick-or-treating,” Mateo assumed.

Zoey shook her head, “Nope, I’m helping Mrs. C prep her food truck for winter,”

Logan briefly stopped his list to comment, “Ew, working on a holiday,”

“Eh, I offered to help, not a big deal.”

For a second a frown came to Mateo’s face, “Guess you won't be over for movie night then,”

Zoey shrugged and dropped her arms to her side to rest them on her hips, “Yep,”

“Us neither,” Logan mentioned, shrugging his shoulder in Izzie’s direction. His attention was most definitely split between the two conversations happening.

Mateo blinked and turned his head back towards the others, “What?”

Izzie half rolled her eyes before punching Logan harshly in the side which caused him to yelp.

“Logan’s taking me and Nova trick-or-treating,” she admitted.

Mateo couldn’t help himself from gapping, “Wha-why Logan!?”

“What’d I do?” Logan asked, glancing back and forth between the two Garcia siblings.

“Well, Dad said I had to have one of you older kids go with us,”

“But Logan? You could’ve asked me,” Mateo protested, letting go of Cooper’s hand to gesture at Logan and then his own self.

Why would Logan be taking them? Between Izzie and Nova, they had plenty of other people to choose from to go with them.

Izzie walked over and wrapped an arm around his shoulders before explaining in a low voice, “I just didn’t want to take you out of your comfort zone Broseph, I know you hate going outside for Halloween. What with all the creepies and people and stuff,”

“Oh,” Mateo mumbled, that … made sense he supposed. It was nice of Izzie of course, he just still couldn’t believe she’d asked Logan to go with them. As much as he had changed over the years he was still Logan.

As Izzie let go, Mateo re-entered Cooper’s personal space bubble and watched as the blond tugged at his fingers trying to crack them. “Guess that means it’ll just be you and me,” Cooper mentioned, “watching horror movies, alone … together,”

A sound that Mateo could only describe as ‘squiem’came from Mateo’s backpack and Cooper jumped a little only to recover and peek into Mateo’s backpack to see the source of the sound.

“Oh and Z-Blob,” he added.

Mateo let the snickers coming from Izzie and Logan slide and only shook his head.

“Well, well, well,” The silly and happy mood of the group quickly dropped as the third bane of all of their existence walked up to the group, grinning coldly. Jared Moretti, Logan and Dallas’s ex-best friend, but unlike the both of them, Jared had yet to realize bullying people wasn’t cool or funny like he seemed to think it was.

He wore his usual attire, a black beanie over his greasy brown hair, a blue New York Yankees baseball jersey, and jeans, no costume in sight. Knowing him that tracked.

“If it isn’t the freak squad,” Jared went on, “of course the lot of you were lame enough to wear costumes to school, so childish.”

Smirking, Logan asked, “Freak squad? What are you nine bro?”

Jared stopped short and let out some undignified sputters, “You- YOU’RE WEARING COSTUMES TO SCHOOL!”

“Because it’s Halloween Hared,” Izzie responded calmly, her accent coming out a little and causing her to pronounce ‘Jared’ with a ‘h’ sound instead of ‘j’ , “it’s the normal thing to do,”

“I-uh-WELL IT'S LAME,” Jared protested, going red in the face as Izzie reached over to fist bump Logan, “all of you and your costumes are lame, especially yours,”

Mateo’s heart dropped as Jared turned his sneer toward him, “What are you even supposed to be? A snot-themed superhero?”

Mateo couldn’t help but wince and took a step back to hide himself a bit more behind Cooper as Cooper sighed like he was entirely done with Jared’s bull crap.

“And this is why I didn’t want to wear a costume,” Cooper muttered. Mateo cast a sad look up at him and grabbed his hand again and in response Cooper smiled down at him as he reached over to pat Mateo on the head.

“Yeah! Captain Boogers, made from the mucus slime of the sewers!” Jared teased meanly.

Izzie let out a growl-like sound as she glared at Jared. Logan also looked equally as annoyed as Cooper but he quickly started to look enraged as Jared walked past Zoey and shoved her causing her to stumble backward a bit.

Jared laughed, so full of himself and his sad excuse of a bullying attempt that he completely missed as Cooper casually stuck out his foot which Jared tripped over and then fell to the ground with an, “AH!”

Jared landed harshly on his front and groaned.

Mateo tugged harshly on Cooper’s hand, dragging the blond down slightly so he was at Mateo's height, yet this did nothing to disperse the victorious smile on Cooper’s face.

“Cooper!” Mateo hissed.

“Whhhaaaaat?” Cooper drawled out, faking innocence that was the final tipping point that led to Logan barking out a laugh.

“I know he sucks but you didn’t need to trip him,”

“It’s just a little payback,” Cooper insisted, clenching his free hand into a fist as his smile wavered.

“Cooper!”

“Fine!” Cooper finally caved, he stood back up to his full height and tilted his head towards Jared who was just beginning to recover from his fall, “Hey, sorry Jared, there. Better?” He asked, turning back to Mateo.

As forced as Cooper’s apology had been Mateo accepted it begrudgingly, “Por los libros de medicina de mi padre,” He grumbled as he facepalmed into his free hand and Izzie let out an amused snort.

“Mr. Oaks!” Jared yelled, pushing himself up onto his forearms as Mr. Oaks, the main math teacher for the juniors, walked past in a giant inflatable dinosaur costume, “Cooper tripped me!”

Mr. Oaks stopped and readjusted his glasses as he took in the group. He then sighed and rubbed at the bridge of his nose as he seemed to mutter, “God help me,” under his breath.

Zoey moved out of the way and headed over to stand beside Logan as Mr. Oaks took a step towards Jared where he held down a hand to help him up only for it to be swatted away. With a frown Mr. Oaks rubbed at his hand before switching his attention to reprimand Cooper, whose hand was beginning to grow sweaty, “Cooper, you know tripping your classmates isn’t good student behavior,”

“What!? I didn’t trip him, he just… ran into my foot,” Cooper insisted.

“Cooper,” Mr. Oaks warned, taking a clipboard and pen out of somewhere to begin to write on it, “I’m afraid I’m going to have to write you up a note to take to the principal,”

“I-“ Cooper’s face fell as he hung his head in shame, “yes Mr. Oaks,”

Mateo felt the grip on his hand loosen and the school rules on PDA quickly came rushing back to him. Mateo was seconds away from letting go when Logan suddenly lurched forward and grabbed Cooper by the wrist.

“Dude! Run!” With a violent yank, Logan pulled Cooper away from Mateo before hauling him down the hall. Once the pair reached the hallway t-intersection Logan put the brakes on so he could shove Cooper to the side and around the corner where they disappeared from view.

By the time Mr. Oaks managed to react, the two were already long gone, “Ay? Hey! Cooper! Logan! No running in the halls!” and without so much as another word to Jared, Mr. Oaks hurried down the hall after Logan and Cooper, his blow up dinosaur costume bouncing goofily.

“Ugh,” Jared grumbled as he managed to stagger to his feet. He shot both Izzie and Zoey a dirty look before flipping Mateo the birdy and storming off past Dallas, who had just walked into the area, like his entire day had just been ruined.

Mateo cringed as Izzie wondered aloud, “Why’s Jared always gotta be so moody?”

“Maybe he’s a closeted theater kid,” Zoey responded in a dry tone so Mateo wasn’t sure if she was joking or not.

“PFFFF,” Izzie seemed to have taken it as a joke.

Dallas, who was dressed in an extremely white fluffy shirt, wolf gloves, and a headband with wolf ears attached to them, blew out a puff of air as he walked over to stand beside Zoey, “I can’t believe I invited that jerk over to my party,”

Mateo squinted in confusion, “You didn’t have too?”

Dallas deflated slightly and went on to scuff at the ground with his shoe, “His parents and mine are besties, as soon as my mom heard about my party she put him on the top of the list so my hands are kind of tied,”

“Gross,” Izzie commented.

“Yeah, yeah, I wouldn’t mind it as much if he wasn’t still such a bully,” Dallas grit out, “he hasn’t matured at allsince like grade four,”

“ You’ve matured a lot Dallas,” Mateo mentioned.

Dallas paused for a second, “Thank Mateo,” he said carefully, “I suppose you guys aren’t coming over to my party though,”

“Yep! We got plans!” Izzie nodded aggressively as she informed Dallas.

Mateo hugged his backpack strap, “I’m watching horror movies with Cooper,”

Dallas snorted, “Oooh, scandalous,”

“Dallas!” Mateo hoped he wasn’t blushing.

Dallas chuckled as Izzie butt in to tell him her plans, “I’m trick-or-treating with Nova and Logan,”

“Sweet! Literally. Makes sense, Logan still hasn’t quite lost that kid spirit yet,”

“Mhm!” With Izzie’s hum of agreement, Dallas raised an eyebrow at Zoey, offering her a moment to add in what she was doing.

“I’m helping Mrs. C prep her truck for winter,” Zoey answered, repeating to a degree what she had said earlier.

“Ooooh, that reminds me, I have to stop by and pick up that salsa,” Dallas’s eyes lit up with sudden knowledge and Mateo was left to wonder why Dallas was going to pick up salsa from Mrs. Castillo’s food truck when he could’ve just gotten some at a grocery store.

Zoey nodded, “It goes bad tomorrow,”

“If any of you guys do stop by though I’ll save you some pop,” Dallas told them, shooting finger guns at Zoey who just scoffed and grabbed him in a headlock to ruffle his hair violently.

Ok, Mateo must have missed a lore dump somewhere.

Dallas laughed as he freed himself from Zoey’s grip and stumbled over a few feet out of her reach.

“Hey, wait,” Izzie spoke up, tapping her finger on her chin, “Dallas what are you supposed to be exactly?”

“I’m a sheep in wolf's clothing,” Dallas responded, grinning smugly as he made a finger gun with one of his hands and put it up to his chin.

“Ooooh, that makes a lot of sense actually,” Izzie muttered as Zoey pulled a paper clip out of her pocket and flung it at Dallas.

Dallas yelped and dodged the paper clip, coming to stand over by Mateo.

“Isn’t that really warm on you?” Mateo asked, eyeing him a little.

A sweat droplet trickled down Dallas’s face as his smile faltered, “Very,”

Cooper hurried down the hall, checking over his shoulder for Mr. Oaks, who he had been avoiding for most of the day since Logan and he had gone on the run only to turn around a corner in the hall and almost run right into Izzie.

“AH! Izzie!” Cooper jumped back as his heart rate spiked.

Izzie reacted with a lot more grace, “OOOOHHH COOPER!” She yelled, holding up something, “I have made something for you! I know a much better thing that you can be for Halloween now!”

Copper blinked and inched forward a little to look at what she was holding, “Is that … a headband with cardboard wings glued to the sides?”

“Yes,” she responded with the certainty that only Izzie could possess, “now hold still while I put them on.”

With that, Izzie yanked Cooper down to her height by the collar of his hoodie and pulled his hood over his face before fitting the headband onto his head. What with the sunglasses, that somehow Cooper had kept on all day, it felt a little clunky.

“Ack,” Cooper grunted but eventually Izzie stopped messing around with the headband and took a step back with a pleased look on her face. Her face then brightened even more as she spotted someone coming up from behind Cooper.

Cooper stood back up and reached a hand up to touch the flimsy headband wings.

“Logan!” Izzie shouted excitedly as she grabbed Cooper by the arm and turned him around, “Behold Hermes Cooper!”

Logan jogged up to the two, his backpack on, looking ready to head home as soon as possible. He stopped once he reached them, a bright grin and quizzical look on his face.

“Hermes? Like Epic the Musical Hermes?” Logan questioned.

“Yep! The sunglasses reminded me of those animatics so I just had to make him some wings to go with them in art class,” Izzie explained proudly.

Logan snorted, “You look sick dude,”

“I’m wearing a hoodie and sunglasses,” Cooper said slowly, it was the bare bones of a costume if anything.

“Yeah like I said, sick,”

There was a pause before Cooper put his face in his hands, “oh my god,”

Izzie let out a wheeze, “Cooper’s hung over from the moly,”

“Izzie,”

“Pffff, he doesn’t got any leafs on him though,” Logan pointed out.

“That’s true…” Izzie agreed, resting her chin on her hand as she trailed off.

“Oh wait!” Logan exclaimed, sliding his backpack off before zipping it open and beginning to rummage around in it. He pulled out a sandwich which was still sealed away in a zip-bloc bag so he pulled it open. From the sandwich, Logan slipped a piece of lettuce that was covered in mayonnaise and mustard that he slapped down into Cooper’s open, outstretched palm.

“There! Holy moly to complete the look!” Logan proclaimed as Izzie doubled over laughing.

Cooper stared down at the sad piece of lettuce in his hand, “… thanks,”

Logan shrugged, throwing the sandwich back into his backpack and throwing his bag back onto his back, “No problem bro,”

Cooper continued to look at the lettuce in dismay until he felt someone grab his elbow and he glanced over to find Mateo standing beside him, who was looking at the lettuce in hand with a mix of amusement and confusion.

“… lettuce?” Mateo wondered.

“Mateo please,” Cooper was sure he was going to die of embarrassment before anything actually managed to kill him.

so I don’t have it completely planned out bc I have fifteen years to write about and such

and I procrastinate (a lot)

but I’ll try my best to sum it up 👍

ok so his name is Keith bc my name is Keith and me is he maybe one day he’ll have a last name I’ll figure it out

It starts in the very beginning before Minecraft Diaries starts! He’s born in Phoenix Drop and is raised there. He’s a little bit younger than Garroth so they never meet at the guard academy. Keith mostly kept to himself anyways, only wanting to learn. After he’s finished with training, Keith goes back to Phoenix Drop and becomes Matilda’s personal guard as she has married the current lord while he was away. I like to think Matilda is around the same age as them, so they did grow up together. They become close friends during this. He considers her the sister he never had and him her brother. He considers Lord Malik a brother as well and they get along well.

Time passes and eventually Garroth shows up. They’re all rightfully confused as he doesn’t even give a last name. But he’s chill so they leave it. More time passes and Garroth gains the trust of the village, even if he is a bit secretive. Keith and him become close friends, as Garroth is appointed head guard and personal guard of Lord Malik himself. Soon enough, Keith realizes his feelings of friendship have turned into something more, even if he hadn’t seen the other man’s face. He tries to keep it secret, but much to his surprise Garroth returns the feelings. As they explore this new part of their relationship, Garroth trusts Keith enough to show him his face. (Keith has no idea who he actually is as he never had seen the Okhasis family’s faces) Keith only falls more in love. They start dating!

One day a mysterious group appears in the forest. They’re cloaked in red and black, seemingly glowing with dark magic. The village had never seen anything like it and were on high guard. The people were friendly enough at first and Malik met up with them in private. Afterwards, though, he began to act strangely, but wouldn’t say anything about their conversations. Keith was confused and worried, but he hoped that Malik would tell him and Garroth if it was serious. But then Matilda started to act strange as well, and she wouldn’t say a word. Now he was hurt as he thought she trusted him and Keith tried to understand.

Matilda told Keith she was pregnant and he was ecstatic. She had been a little distant since the group had showed up, but this brought them back together. He was going to be an uncle. When Matilda was close to giving birth, Keith and her were walking through the forest. They were spending some time alone together when they were ambushed by one of the strange people from the group that had been staying in the village. Keith did his best to defend his sister, but got knocked out.

When he awoke, Keith didn’t know where he was. He was injured and disoriented with all his weapons gone. The same person from before showed back up and revealed himself to be a ‘Shadow Knight’. Keith had no clue what that was. The Shadow Knight tortured him over the course of two weeks, leaving severe injuries and wounds. Keith bid his time and found a way to escape. He had to wait even longer while he healed and regained his strength. He had to wait almost another two weeks before he could return.

Upon his return, he found Matilda and Malik’s house burnt to the ground. He was in disbelief. Hoping they were okay and safe, he continued on to the village, but it seemed as if he was invisible to everyone. They barely spared him a passing glance. Confused and scared, he made his way to Garroth’s home, hoping his boyfriend could explain. Garroth did not recognize him. His soul was crushed as he struggled to piece together what happens when he was away. It had to be that group, as they were missing too.

Heartbroken, Keith decided to leave Phoenix Drop and travel to see if he could find Matilda and Malik as well as reverse what had happened to the village. To begin, he headed to Bright Port. One night, as the sun went down, Keith was heading back to the inn where he was staying when he got attacked. It was fast and unexpected and.. weird.. The attacker had bit his neck. Not long after the attack did he become sick. It was a slow and painful process, but he realized that the attacker was a werewolf and had transformed him. He knew of a wolf tribe close to Bright Port and sought them out for help. Fortunately, they welcomed him with open arms and taught him their ways. He stayed there for a while, learning all he could. He couldn’t leave when he wanted to as the Bright Port and Tribe started to have a strained relationship after Visher died and the lord went missing. Of course, the tribe knew where he was. He had jumped in the Nether portal to help Kiva, a wolf pup. When the nether portal was erected, Keith recognized the power from it as the same one from the Shadow Knights.

Tensions were even worse when a pure-blooded wolf pup Lowell went missing. The Bright Port guards had taken him and the tribe was unable to get him back. After a patrol, Bodolf came back with Lowell and a human woman in tow. Her name was Aphmau and she had rescued Lowell herself. With his new abilities, Keith found she had the familiar smell of home. He was curious about her, but before he could speak to her, she went onto the Nether to rescue Kiva and the lord of Bright Port. He was amazed at her bravery and courage. While she was away, two men and a woman came out of the portal with a shadow. They smelled like the Shadow Kmights that had come to Phoenix Drop. They attacked the tribe and set it ablaze, fire ravaging their homes. They tried to fight back, but they were too strong and escaped unscathed.

Keith wanted to speak with Aphmau, but she had to leave to find the lord still. He stayed behind and waited (im)patiently for her to return. When she came back to Bright Port, Keith traveled into the village to meet her again. He met her at the docks before she left and he struck up a convertsuin about why she came to Bright Port in the first place. She told him of a guard back home that had been hurt severely and needed to be healed. Garroth. Garroth had been hurt and was close to death. Keith asked to go with her. Aphmau was surprised, but accepted, happy to have company. After he said his quick goodbyes, Keith left with Aphmau back to Phoenix Drop. As Aphmau rushed to see Garroth with her potion, Keith stood dumbfounded. He followed her and watched from the doorway as her and Garroth spoke. He didn’t even look Keith’s way. He found out that Zenix, Garroth’s apprentice, had turned against them. Keith listened to them until he couldn’t anymore. He left, feeling hurt and distraught over what was happening. He explored around, finding out all the things that had changed while he was away.

* when Garroth goes to the Irene Dimension it brings back his memories and he’s distraught over everything (I want to have the village remember too, but it’ll probably be after Aphmau gets the relic)

* Keith grows his hair out after Garroth goes missing bc it was the last thing he touched and he couldn’t bring himself to care

* also I was going to have like a thing where Garroth falls in love with Aphmau and Keith is like 😦

“it’s nice to have a fourth person around the office. someone with more sense than these two knuckleheads.” matt grinned. “who knows? maybe one day it’ll be y/l/n, nelson, murdock, and page!!”

“yeah, you can inherit it from us when we’re old!!” foggy said, enthusiastically nodding

“aw, you already are old!” you said, and karen laughed

and that’s when you knew you were right where you belonged :)

Taiwanese Dubbed Precure Name Translations

First post of the year on this blog. Must I bring weirdness to the table?

YES.

😂 Well, it’s not that weird. This was a way to kill time while I was staying in Guangzhou two months ago. I wanted to watch youtube but since I was in the mainland, nothing would show when you open the app so I had to use a VPN. And cuz I set the location to Taiwan, YT started recommending me Precure in the local dub based on my watch history.

So I got curious, checked it out and this is what that curiosity spiraled into.

Before I get into anything though, this was my first time watching Precure dubbed in another language other than Japanese so I’m not that familiar with it beyond the episodes that are available on YT. I just know (according to the wiki) that in East Asia, it’s primarily broadcasted in Taiwan, Hong Kong and South Korea so it’s not hard to find those dubs online.

Of course, in Taiwan, people speak Mandarin but since it was dubbed in Taiwan, I shall refer to the dub as Taiwanese.

(I am not fluent in Mandarin btw so don’t come for my head if I get any translations or tonal changes wrong, this was just for fun :P)

Few things to go over before diving into the seasons.

One, there is obviously no direct translation for Precure in Mandarin since “Precure” is a made up word to begin with. Although the Hong Kong/Cantonese dub does use the term “Pretty Cure” (as far as Fresh goes, I don’t know about the rest), the Taiwanese dub chose to retitle the series as “光之美少女” (guāngzhīměishàonǜ) which translates to “beautiful/pretty girls of light”.

I can see why. The other option would be to transliterate “Precure” into Mandarin but the result would end up being more clunky than anything aesthetic.

When it comes to foreign or loan words, Chinese would grab characters (hanzi) based on the sound they make to put it as close as possible to how the original is pronounced.

For example, chocolate is 巧克力 (qiǎokèlì) but when you translate it character by character, it gives you something like “skillful gram power” which is just weird. Even if it kinda makes sense if you think about it long enough, the direct meaning doesn’t give you the idea of “chocolate” right away, yea?

So I’m pretty sure that’s the reason why “光之美少女” is the equivalent of “Precure” in Mandarin. When you hear it, you’ll immediately know it’s referring to that magical girl franchise.

美少女 (měishàonǜ) is also “bishoujo” in Japanese and as far as I know, this is the term that has been used to describe magical girls as far back as Sailor Moon in the Chinese dubs (I can confirm this because I watched the old Canto dub). So it’s also to help identify Precure as part of the genre, I guess.

Two, instead of “Cure”, the girls are called “Angel”s (天使/tiānshǐ) with the variable part of the name preceding “Angel” rather than following after it.

This makes a lot of sense, too. “Angel” connects better with “光之美少女” (pretty girls of light) and children whose first language is Mandarin would find it easier to understand that than try to figure out what “Cure” means and how it relates in context.

明白吗? 👍

Ok, then. I’ll only be translating the Cure names (which I got from the wiki). The civilian names of the main characters along with the names of mascots and a few supporting characters, I’ll just spell out the pronunciation in pinyin.

Because unless they have kanji/hanzi in them, it’s (usually) going to be a transliteration from the original in kana. And as I said above, the combined meaning of transliterated words often don’t make any sense. They can also get very wordy if the name is particularly long so that’s why I don’t want to do it in this post. It drove me crazy enough getting through everyone in my notes 😅

*Note: The names taken from the wiki may NOT be accurate to script in the Taiwanese dub so if there are corrections that need to be made, I will do them later.

Futari wa Precure/Max Heart - 光之美少女/Max Heart

Cure Black - 黑天使 (hēi - Black Angel)

Misumi Nagisa (美墨なぎさ)- 美墨莎莎 (měimò shāshā/suōsuō)

Cure White - 白天使 (bái - White Angel)

Yukishiro Honoka (雪城ほのか) - 雪城穗乃香 (xuěchéng suìnǎixiāng)

Shiny Luminous - 夏妮露米納斯 (xiànī lùmǐnàsī)

Kujo Hikari (九条ひかり) - 九條光 (jiǔtiáo guāng)

Mepple - 美波 (měibō)

Mipple - 米波 (mǐbō)

Porun - 保倫 (bǎolún)

Lulun - 露露 (lùlù)

Yea, I still haven’t watched the first three seasons and I don’t think I ever will, lol

But since I’m doing this, might as well cover them all, yea?

First season is simple enough since it’s, well, the first.

Nagisa and Honoka’s given names in Japanese are written in hiragana so they can stand for anything. However, there is no phonetic system like that in Mandarin so the Taiwanese dub gave them hanzi. Naturally, they’re gonna sound different.

And I could be wrong but I don’t think Honoka is addressed in her full given name, “suìnǎixiāng” (if that’s really how she’s called cuz I haven’t watched this season’s dub) 😅 It’s probably shortened or converted into a nickname somehow.

Same goes for Hikari, which directly translates to “guāng” (light). It doesn’t sound cute enough for a girl and there’s two ways I know they can go about making a single character name cuter. Either put “小” (xiǎo, “small/little”) in front of it to form “xiǎo guāng” (small/little light) or double the character to “guāng guāng” (光光) <- this doesn’t mean “light light” btw, it’s just a common way to give a cutesy nickname to someone in Chinese (typically girls but can be done for boys too and to make your speech sound cutesy-er)

I dunno, if anybody watched this in Mandarin, can you please tell us how they’re called? lol

The rest are transliterations, with Shiny Luminous having the honor of going first in demonstrating exactly what transliterating means. Again, put together, those characters are just there to imitate the sound of the original word(s). Otherwise, they make absolutely no sense in translation 😂

Precure Splash Star - 光之美少女 Splash Star

Cure Bloom/Cure Bright - 花天使／月天使 (huā/yuè - Flower Angel/Moon Angel)

Hyuuga Saki (日向咲 - rìxiàng xiào)

Cure Egret/Cure Windy - 舞天使／風天使 (wǔ/fēng - Dancing Angel/Wind Angel)

Mishou Mai (美翔舞 - měixiáng wǔ)

Flappy - 弗拉比 (fúlābǐ)

Choppy - 喬比 (qiáobǐ)

Mupu - 姆姆 (m��mǔ)

Fupu - 芙芙 (fúfú)

Kiryuu Kaoru (霧生かおる) - 霧生薰 (wùshēng xūn)

Kiryuu Michiru (霧生みちる) - 霧生滿 (wùshēng mǎn)

Interestingly, this season was also called “Precure III” but I guess they dropped the numbering when Yes!5 deviated from the partner pair model to introduce the sentai-style groups.

Anyways, still pretty straightforward. This time, the girls have kanji in their given names.

The character for Saki’s name (咲) means “bloom” or “blossom”. But in Chinese, 咲 is also the traditional form of the simplified character “笑” (xiào) which means “smile” or “laugh”. So I guess there’s a double meaning there. when I learned this, all I could think of was Saki’s mouth opening VERY wide when she laughed in DX2

Omg, you don’t realize how big of a leap they went from two MCs to six until you’re going through the dictionary for every single one of them 😅

Nothing really different with the Cure/Angel names except Lemonade which got reverted to “lemon” 🍋

Milky Rose, though…hahaha, oh god, I had such a laugh cuz I google translated it first from my phone and what came up was “Miaoqi Ruth” 😂 The pronunciation is “miàoqí lùsī” but now I can’t unsee it! So everyone, whenever you’re referring to Milky Rose in Mandarin, be sure to call her MIAOQI RUTH, ok?! 🤣

On another note, the translation of “妙奇露丝” isn’t too weird, surprisingly. “Wonderful Strange Reveal Silk”? It almost fits since she’s technically a Purple Cure, mysterious (wonderful, strange) and beautifully OP and all. The “silk” part is ironic though. Cuz rose petals are soft in texture (like silk) but Milky Rose’s elemental attack is a storm of metal splinters 😂

Moving along, this season is also another case of gaining hanzi in place of hiragana. Most of them are quite charming. Urara’s can mean “beautiful” or… “Korea” (errkay 🥴) But I like Karen’s the most. Hers is a combination of “fragrant” and “to long for” so “longing for fragrance”? Hm~ Elegant~ 😊

可可 is cocoa, which is a loan word, while 果 means “fruit” but it can also mean “nut”. It got doubled to make it sound cuter.

Fresh Precure - 光之美少女: 幸福精靈Fresh!

Cure Peach - 桃天使 (táo - Peach Angel)

愛情精靈 - (àiqíng) Love/Romance Spirit

Momozono Love (桃園ラブ) - 桃園愛 (táoyuán ài)

Cure Berry - 莓天使 (méi - Berry/Strawberry Angel)

希望精靈 - (xīwàng) Hope Spirit

Aono Miki - 蒼乃美希 (cāngnǎi měixī)

Cure Pine - 鳳梨天使 (fènglí - Pineapple Angel)

祈願精靈 - (qíyuàn) Prayer Spirit

Yamabuki Inori - 山吹祈里 (shānchuī qílǐ)

Fresh essentially saved Precure from cancellation so it wouldn't surprise me if overseas dubs thought the series was going in a slightly different direction that they decided to change things up a bit on how they market it to their local audience as well.

幸福精靈 (xìngfújīnglíng) is an add-on to the season title and it means "Happiness Elf/Fairy/Spirit" I'm gonna go with "spirit" here for 精靈 (jīnglíng) cuz I also put this through google translate first and it gave me "elf" and I was like "what elf? they don't have elf ears!" 😂

莓 for berry can also mean strawberry. For Passion's, I'm not really sure if it's 熱情果 (‪rèqíngguǒ‬) or 百香果 (bǎixiāngguǒ). The former is a combination of "passionate/enthusiastic" and "fruit" but the latter is how you say the fruit's actual name in Chinese.

There are additional translations for the different themes each Cure represents. In Japanese, Peach represents love but in Mandarin, it's specified as 愛情 (àiqíng) which means romantic love. Yea, that's quite odd because there was barely any romance element in the show. Passion, on the other hand, doesn't represent happiness but luck or fortune. To be honest, this makes more sense to me cuz the four of them together form the lucky clover so why is nobody representing luck? lol

They all do collectively, I guess.

Yay~! My first Precure love that got me into this damn franchise 🥰

It's strange that this season is called "Sweet Angel" (甜蜜天使, tiánmìtiānshǐ). I mean, I know there is no translation for "Heartcatch" but when you say 甜蜜 (tiánmì), it literally means "sweet honey" so wouldn't this be more suited for a season that deals with sweets like Suite or KiraPre? 😅

Anyways, Heartcatch has an older character in its cast so I'm gonna talk about that now. Yuri is addressed with "-san" by the girls which makes sense in Japanese context. However, in Chinese, using those honorifics (Mr. or Ms./Miss) to call someone who's only slightly older or within the same generation as you is very strange to the ears. It sounds too formal and distant. So even though I haven't watched the dub for this season, I'm pretty sure they call Yuri "百合姐姐" (Bǎihé jiějie) or “百合姐” (Bǎihé jiě), which would be "Yuri-oneesan" in Japanese. You don't have to be blood related to call an older girl or woman "jiějie" (or 哥哥 ("gēge" older brother) for an older boy). It’s generally used to help indicate familiarity in the relationship as well as acknowledges seniority between the older person and the younger ones.

Finally, Cure Flower's name (花朵, huāduǒ) also means a "cluster of flowers" as opposed to Blossom's name (花蕾, huālěi) which just means a "flower bud". Nice distinction there between the two generations, hehe

(fun note: 美樂 can also be pronounced as "měilè" which means Merlot. As in, the type of grape used to make wines, haha)

The transliteration of "Siren" sounds a lot closer to how it's pronounced in English compared to "seiren" in Japanese. Even the first character in her name corresponds with Ellen's backstory (賽 means to compete or surpass which Siren wanted to do against Hummy before her character development)

Muse is also another transliteration and the hanzi (謬思) put together kinda fits her, too. 謬 means "to deceive/confuse" which can be attributed to her disguise before she revealed her true identity while 思 means "to think". What's another term for "think"? Muse.

Don't know if that was intentional or not but if so, it's quite clever.

晴朗 (qínglăng) means clear and bright weather so it’s consistent with sunny days. But I dunno, when I hear "clear and bright", I think of blue skies, not necessarily the sun. But eh, whatever cuz you need the sun out to see blue skies anyway.

March has the coolest name change, imo. Whirlwind/tornado gets the image of her element across a lot better than her original name does.

Candy is the most accurate translation for a mascot name atm cuz 糖 (táng) means sugar or candy and again, doubling the character gives it that cute nickname effect.

In a similar vein to happiness, love can be translated in many ways depending on what kind of love we're talking about. Compare Love's 愛情 (àiqíng) from earlier which means romantic love versus Mana's 愛心 (àixīn) which means compassion or love and care for others.

Love and Mana also share the same character (愛, love) for their given names in Mandarin, btw.

There is a a word for (three-leaf) clover (三叶草, sānyècǎo) but for some reason, they decided to go with "Lucky Grass" (幸運草 (xìngyùncào) for Rosetta instead.

And yes, 四葉愛 (àilìsī) is how you transliterate Alice into Mandarin. Directly translated, it means "love + beautiful/magnificent + silk" (ooh, pretty~ 🤩)

The 艾 in 艾艾 for Ai-chan is not related to love but in fact, means moxa or Chinese mugwort which is used in traditional herbal medicine. So that hanzi was probably chosen to imitate the sound of "ai" while trying not to let it get mixed up with the other "愛"s in the show.

Finally, I threw in the legacy Cures just because I wanted to see if the hanzi used for Cure Magician would be different than the hanzi used for Mahoutsukai Precure and it was. But more on that later when we get to it.

And HaCha also has a secondary title: 填充精靈 (tiánchōngjīnglíng) If you remember from Fresh, 精靈 (jīnglíng) means “spirit” or “fairy” while 填充 (tiánchōng) means to "fill up" so it can pretty much translate to "fairies that fill you up (with happiness)" or something.

可愛 (kě’ài) is the same as kawaii (可愛い) and it can be translated multiple ways including but not limited to “cute”, “charming”, and “lovely”.

Does the 甜蜜 (tiánmì) in Cure Honey's name sound familiar? Yea, it's the same 甜蜜 as Heartcatch's title in Mandarin so it's probably for the best that these two seasons don't do a collab. Even their abbreviations (HC, HaCha) can make it really confusing in the same space 😅

Fortune (命運, mìngyùn) in this case doesn't mean the luck kind of fortune (which would be 幸運 (xìngyùn), I believe) but more of the future-predicting kind and hence, destiny.

Another interesting case here with the mascots is that their names actually translate to the same meaning as to what the Japanese ones are based off of. 緞帶 (duàndài) means satin strap (ribbon) while 墨鏡 (mòjìng) means sunglasses.

And I was a little intimidated on whether I wanted to try "deciphering" Hime's ridiculously long name but turns out it's very mild compared to say, Fuwa's from StarPre. Now that I look at it after it's been a while, more than half of it is just a title. Her given name is probably just Himelda Window 😂

Twinkle's is an intriguing translation because she and Sparkle wound up sharing the same hanzi. 閃亮 (shǎnliàng) can be translated a number of ways including “brilliant”, “shiny”, “flare”, “to glisten” and “to twinkle”. Basically, if you're blingin' bright, you're 閃亮 😎✨

Kirara's given name in Mandarin, 綺羅 (qǐluó), means “beautiful silk fabrics” or “a person in a beautiful silk dress” and is likely a reference to Orihime which her princess concept is based off of.

赤紅 (chìhóng) are two characters for the color red so placed together, it means really red (aka scarlet).

Twilight got to keep her name as is and this is the translation for it:

“black dye (for painting eyebrow) + preserve/maintain + name of weed plant + virtue”

...it kinda makes half sense at least??

Oh and 泡芙 (pàofú) means cream puff, not the powder puff used for makeup.

Ok, so as opposed to 魔術師 (móshùshī) used for Cure Magician in DokiPre, MahoPre uses 魔法使 (mófǎshī). I'm not sure if there's really that big of a difference between them but breaking both down, 魔術師 is "magic power + art/skill/technique + teacher/master" (translated to "magician") while 魔法使 is "magic power + rule/law + teacher/master" (translated to "wizard/sorcerer"). So I guess it really depends on the context in which they're being used.

For the Cure names, there are no major changes. 奇蹟 (qíjì) can also mean “wonder" or "marvel”. 魔法 (mófǎ) can also stand for “enchantment”. And 幸福 (xìngfú) means happiness. I believe this is the general term used for happiness in Chinese but it also carries a sort of...precious connotation to it? Cuz it also means "blessings" which Felice also represents so there's that. You can compare Cure Happy's joyful happiness vs Felice's blessed happiness and feel the distinction there.

For the civilian names, I didn't mention this before but any girl whose Japanese name ends in "ko" (子) will likely be translated to "zǐ" cuz 子 means "child". Though when I hear "zǐ", I think of "boy" instead of child cuz it usually refers to sons. Anyway, the first hanzi of Riko's given name means “logic” or “reason” which fits her personality since she is the more law-abiding one between her and Mirai. Xiǎo Hā means "little Ha" (the closest you'll get to translating anything with “-chan” in it cuz we don't have those sort of suffixes in Chinese) and 哈 is the onomatopoeia for laughter (aww~ 🥰) or Pekinese pug (lol 😂)

Mofurun's translation is very hilarious as well. 莫夫倫 means "do not + husband + human relationship" So I guess they really wanted to hammer it in that Mirai and Riko are a lesbian couple 🤣

Finally Mother Rapapa is called 母神 which literally means “mother goddess”.

And I'm still dying at the translation for Gelato cuz it reminds me of that John Cena video where he’s repeatedly saying "wǒ xǐhuan bīngqílín!" (I love ice cream!) in order to appeal to China audiences to go watch one of the Fast & Furious movies 🤣

Oh and the “綺羅” (qǐlou) in Kirarin’s name is the same as Kirara’s given name in Mandarin. So 綺羅 is probably how the translators chose to substitute “きら” (kira) in Mandarin.

lol, they didn't bother transliterating Macherie and granted her the title of "True Love Angel" instead (摯愛 can also mean "beloved", apparently) Even the hanzi for Emiru's name is full of love: 惠美瑠 = "favor/kindness + beautiful + precious stone"

愛神 is likely referring to Roman god of love, Amor, and therefore, love god. Amor is also known as Cupid so you can think of Cure Amour as Cupid Angel from now on, hehehe 🤭

And omg, Hugtan has the most adorable name translation! 😆💕 Cuz 抱抱 means "cuddle" and it's just so irresistibly cute to hear that from a baby when they reach out to you and ask for hugs like “bàobào? 🥺”

Which doesn't really help the thought that HealPre's designs were lifted from Go!Pri's and now they're even more alike than needed, lol

And I'm amused how the loan word for Latte means "take + iron/strong" cuz if you drink too much coffee, it can actually inhibit your iron absorption 😂

And I find that Spicy and Yum Yum don't sound as convincing as they do in Mandarin. 調 (tiáo) seems to cover a wider range of condiments than just spice while 好味 (hǎowèi) just sounds better cuz it's like "good taste! 👍"

包包 (bāobāo) means "bun" (x2), not the same as 抱抱 (bàobào) cuz they're obviously different characters and even their tones aren't the same. And 麵麵 (miànmiàn) is also slang for spineless person (poor Mem Mem 😅)

Also not surprised that Rosemary is a direction translation of the plant, rosemary, but they let Black Pepper keep his alter ego name instead of using 黑胡椒 (hēihújiāo).

Ffffff, the wiki is wrong! Or at least half of it hasn’t been updated. I think what probably happened was the Japanese version of their names was translated in the Chinese wiki first but as the dub progressed, the translators chose to change some words around.

*SIGH* Now I’m doubting everything I wrote down up till now 😓

Anyways, I had to go back to rewatch this dub so I hope I got all the correct names this time.

Starting with the title, they used a Chinese idiom in place of “Hirogaru Sky” which is really cool.

開闊天空 (hăikuòtiānkōng) translates to “wide sea and sky”. Another way of interpreting it is the “whole wide world” or “chatting about everything under the sun”.

Sora seems to have gone through the most shifts in her name. Initially, her Cure name translation was 天空 (tiānkōng) which is just “sky” but it changed to “晴空” (qíngkōng) which is more specifically “clear sky” (空 can also translate to “air”). Her Mandarin given name also takes those hanzi to form “天晴” (tiānqíng) which would also be “clear sky” or “clear heavens”.

The 陽 (yáng) that switched out the 凪 in Tsubasa’s surname means “to expand”, “bright” or “glorious”. Fitting since the image of a phoenix is associated with our little birdie~

Ageha’s given name is just “butterfly” in Mandarin. However, her friends call her “小蝶姐” (xiǎodiéjiě, “Big sis Little Butterfly”) since she’s older than them so that sorta makes up for it.

And for some reason, the dub decided not to use “Majesty” despite the fact that there are characters that exist for that term. Instead, they went with “Princess” which is like c’mooonn… 😩

Cuz now we have another pair of Cures from different seasons sharing the same name/hanzi again in a dub (Cure Princess and Cure Majesty).

Also, it’s weird they changed Majesty but kept Cure Noble as “noble” (高貴, gāoguì) 🫤

Oh well. I guess it’s a matter of using simpler hanzi kids can understand??

Anyways, it just tickles me pink that Cure Wing/Wing Angel is also called a “bishoujo” in the Taiwanese dub 🤭

Precure isn’t restricted to the female gender anymore (the name itself never was, tbh, cuz it’s not a real word) but even magical boys are considered “magical girls” in the 光之美少女 sphere.

Ageha stills calls him “shounen” (少年, shàonián), though. Haha!

Wonderful Precure - 美妙寵物光之美少女

Cure Wonderful - 美好天使 (měihǎo- Fine Angel)

Inukai Komugi (犬飼こむぎ) - 犬飼麥 (quǎnsì mài)

Cure Friendy - 友愛天使 (yǒu’ài - Friendly Affection Angel)

Inukai Iroha (犬飼いろは) - 犬飼彩葉 (quǎnsì cǎiyè)

Cure Nyammy - 喵喵天使 (miāomiāo - Meow Meow/Kitty Angel)

Nekoyashiki Yuki (猫屋敷ユキ) - 貓屋敷雪 (māowūfū xuě)

Cure Lillian - 莉莉安天使 (lìlìān - Lillian Angel)

Nekoyashi Mayu (猫屋敷まゆ) - 貓屋敷真結 (māowūfū zhēnjié)

Weird how HiroPre’s translations got all mixed up but WonPre turned out normal. Maybe cuz HiroPre was the anniversary season?

Moving along…WonPre in the dub is 美妙寵物 (měimiào chǒngwù) which translates to “wonderful pet”.

It also has a nickname. Not really a secondary title name but a nickname which is “汪汪光美” (wāngwāngguāngměi) which translates to “woof woof shining beauty”.

美好 (měihǎo) is the closest word you can translate to from “wonderful”, I think. It’s a combination of “pleasing” (美) and “good” (好) so the result can be “beautiful”, “fine”, or “great” which can all be synonyms for “wonderful”.

友愛 (yǒu’ài) doesn’t mean friendship but friendly affection. The hanzi for friendship is 友谊 (yǒuyì).

Nyammy’s is a cute one. 喵 by itself means cat. 喵喵 renders it to the more cute-sounding “kitty” and it’s also how Chinese make the sound “meow meow” (like the Japanese “nya nya”).

Lillian’s name is a foreign word so it’s another transliteration. But the translation of it is quite pretty. It doubles the hanzi for “white jasmine” (莉, lì) and puts it together with the hanzi for “calm/peaceful” (安, ān). So it also fits Mayu’s character very well 😊

Ah, and there’s another way you can address someone close to you that’s kinda like a nickname but not as cutesy.

If their given name is just one character, you can put a “啊” (ā) in front of it or after it. 啊 is more of a particle hanzi. It doesn’t have any deep meaning to it but helps express emotions or soften tones in conversations. When attached to someone’s name, it makes you sound friendlier when talking to them as opposed to calling them by their full name (surname + given).

Iroha does this for Satoru (啊悟, ā wù) in place of “-kun”.

**NOTE: Since the new season details have only recently been announced, nothing official has been decided for the dub yet. These are just temporary translations and this section will be edited once the Taiwanese dub is released.

你和偶像 (nǐhéǒuxiàng) = You and Idol

The “心動” (xīngdòng) for Cure Kyun Kyun’s name translation is different from DokiPre’s “心跳” (xīntiào). 心跳 (xīntiào) refers to one’s pulse while 心動 (xīngdòng) means “heart movement” in the sense of your heart getting excited or aroused by emotion. Essentially what happens when you’re admiring and fanning hard over your idol.
